| Home Page Change of Venue Please note that the Society's talk on Monday 22nd February will now be held at King Charles Room in Kidderminster Town Hall, not as originally planned in the library. Charles Talbot will be speaking on 'The Livery Companies of London'. AGM The Society's AGM will be held at Kidderminster Library at 7.30 pm on Friday 23rd April. Two New Plaques Erected Two of Kidderminster's finest industrial buildings are now featuring blue plaques, which were erected in July. Slingfield Mill and the Piano Building, both listed buildings, have recently been undergoing major works, and the plaques make a superb finishing touch in both cases. The plaques were produced as part of the Civic Society's Historic Kidderminster Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund 2006-2008. Membership If you would like to become a member of the Civic Society or would like to read the members' newsletter, please click on About Us. More HKP Reports recently added to this Site The Historic Kidderminster Project (HKP) has published in August 2009 a further collection of reports on the history of the town's buildings. There are now 130 reports, and they are now available on this site. To view them click on 'Reports' on the left hand side of this page. Complete sets of the reports are available as hard copies at Kidderminster Library, Worcester Record Office and the Carpet Museum Archive for public access. The reports range from Hall Street and Harveys Wine Vaults in the historic town centre to the streets on all sides of the town. Also included are outlying areas such as Franche, Habberley and Trimpley. The properties covered range from lost mansions such as Blakebrook House to terraced houses in Peel Street. The new reports include a major piece of work on Dudley Street, industrial buildings such as the Albion Foundry, Puxton Mill and Barton's factory in Vicar Street, and the Swan also in Vicar Street. The reports are not primarily about the architecture of the buildings. They are more about the social history of the town and the people who lived in the buildings. The reports should be of use to family historians and those researching the origins of their own house.
